Benefit Breakfast Raises $81,000!
239 people attended the 2011 Big Brothers Big Sisters' Benefit Breakfast and contributed over $81,000 to support the community supported mentoring program.
At the breakfast, our guests got to hear from some great spreakers how the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program has affected them and why they choose to support the organization. Here is a recap of our speakers:
Jim Hayford, Eastern Washington University's head men's basketball coach: Jim talked about how important mentoring is and how he gets the opportunity to mentor young men every year. He also talked about one of his assistant coaches and how he was a little brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program when he was a child and how that molded him and shaped him into what he is today.
Pat Way, former little brother: Pat shared with us his story and connection to Big Brothers Big Sisters. When he was a child, he had two different Big Brothers. He talked about how his Big Brothers were different in so many ways, but they both played a big role in helping him to choose the right path in life. Pat is now a grown man and local business owner.
Michelle Christie, parent of a little sister: Michelle shared her family's story of the dire need she was in as a single mother. Her daughter was facing really difficult circumstances. Being matched with her Big Sister has given her more self esteem and helped her to be a more kind and happy child.
